Lamborghini goes ice-drifting | Esperienza Neve conquers Mongolia’s frozen lakes

Share

Even before Volkswagen purchased Lamborghini in 1998, the automaker had experimented with using all-wheel drive systems in its vehicles to help improve traction as their engines became more powerful. Using a modified version of the Lamborghini LM002 SUVs four-wheel drive system with a viscous centre differential, the 1993 Diablo VT could propel from 0-62 miles per hour in just 4 seconds.

All-wheel drive has become synonymous with Lamborghini’s lineup

Thanks to the impressive boost in performance that all-wheel drive systems gave to Lamborghini, in addition to Volkswagen’s ownership allowing them access to all-wheel drive expertise from Audi and Porsche, every Lamborghini model these days can be equipped with all-wheel drive from the factory.

The integration of all-wheel drive systems into Lamborghini’s lineup has translated to mind-boggling performance on track and on the road, but it’s also meant that Lamborghini’s supercars can be enjoyed and driven in all four seasons of the year. At the Esperienza Neve test track in Mongolia, clients could push the limits of modern Lamborghini capability even further in the snow and on ice.

Esperienza Neve on ice showcases the versatility of Lamborghini’s lineup

At the turn of the 21st century, if you told the world that by 2025, Lamborghini’s lineup would include a plug-in hybrid, an SUV, and an off-road focused V10 sports coupe, you’d have probably ended up in a straight jacket. The sheer variety in Lamborghini’s modern lineup means the charisma of a Lamborghini can be experienced in many different ways with many different functions.

The Revuelto offers 1,001 horsepower on tap thanks to its combination of a naturally aspirated 6.5L V12 and three electric motors. The Urus Performante uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 to pump out an astonishing 657 horsepower, meaning its an SUV that’s still a true Lamborghini in every sense. The Huracán Sterrato employs a naturally-aspirated 5.2L V10 to produce 602 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque, making for an incredibly balanced power band in a supercar with all-terrain tires.
