Stellantis has a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s called Hurricane 4 Turbo, and it’s one of the first mass-produced engines to utilize a passive turbulent jet ignition (TJI) system. It makes 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, and we’ll see it first in the refreshed 2026 Grand Cherokee that Jeep also revealed today.
TJI uses a small “cup-like” pre-chamber atop each cylinder to initiate ignition. Once ignited, the burning fuel expands into the standard combustion chamber, where a faster, more complete burn occurs. Stellantis says the engine uses 10 percent less fuel while producing 20 percent more power than the brand’s current 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
The engine—with an aluminum block, oil pan, and timing cover—uses both port and direct fuel injection, features two spark plugs per cylinder, and has a variable-geometry turbocharger that makes up to 35 psi of boost. It has a 12:1 compression ratio while running on regular 87 octane gasoline.
Stellantis says that the engine makes 90 percent of its torque between 2,600 and 5,600 rpm, with 100 percent available from 3,000 to 4,500 rpm.

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Updates
The engine will first appear in the refreshed 2026 Grand Cherokee, which goes on sale later this year. It will arrive with a redesigned seven-slot grille, restyled headlights, and tweaked rear and lower fascias. Inside, the GC receives a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display with an available 10.3-inch passenger screen.
Jeep has simplified the Grand Cherokee’s trim lineup for 2026 from five to just three: Laredo, Limited, and Summit. The Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine carries over into the base Laredo trim, but if you upgrade to the Laredo Altitude, you can get the automaker’s new turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The automaker claims the new turbo-powered Grand Cherokee can travel up to 506 miles per tank and tow up to 6,200 pounds.

Jeep will release pricing information later. The 2025 Grand Cherokee starts at $38,460.
